This autumn there’ll be hand-sewing repair sessions at St Peter’s Church, Belsize Park. The September and October sessions are following on from the popular Fix and Mix textile repair workshops which have been held at Belsize Community Library, enabled by Camden Council’s Community Connectedness Fund.
Four NW3 residents supported by The Winch, the charity that runs the library, have been welcoming people who want to learn basic sewing machine skills so that they can repair clothes they hope to love again.
The workshops have been facilitated by Sophie Gorton, a textile designer who specialises in fashion and creating bespoke fabrics for interiors. She has taught participants how to hem, patch, take in, let out, and reconfigure garments.
The demand for places has outstripped capacity as library visitors observed the value of the sessions for those taking part. So, the scheduled events at St Peter’s Church will give more locals the opportunity to learn how to repair any cherished pieces of clothing and make them wearable again. Do book ahead if you know you want to join in!

Monday 14 September: 3.30-6pm
Monday 19 October: 3.30-6pm
Saturday 12 December from 11:30am-2pm, there’ll be a festive jumper upcycling workshop.
