On Saturday 29 August Camden Town’s best music street party with open air dancing returns. With Inverness Street NW1 being a cul-de-sac, the location is ideal for a big stage. And there’s plenty of space for anyone and everyone to dance or just be there to soak up the happy atmosphere.

Last year’s memorable celebration, brought together people of all ages to the Inverness Street Bloc Party. I was in Camden doing some fun market shopping when I came across the event. Meant to stay for a moment, left more than an hour later! Friends and families were all getting their groove or relaxing at the Inverness cafes and its corner pub.

Lose Yourself In The Music

Almost a dozen pioneering and prolific DJs will be celebrating Disco House music. Each DJ with their own style, but at heart, the funk of 70s and 80s disco gets alchemised with modern house music rhythm. And how apt because it was house music which launched legendary venues like Camden Palace and the Electric Ballroom.

The DJ line up has also been chosen to honour Camden’s tradition of cultural expression and community activism. And especially the legacy of the brilliant Claudia Vera Jones who, in the late 1950s, organised Britain’s first Caribbean Carnival at St Pancras Town Hall which is said to be the precursor of the Notting Hill Carnival.

The Inverness Street Bloc Party, Camden NW1, is from noon-7pm.
